Insignia & Toshiba Fire TV Remote App
Lost the remote for your Insignia or Toshiba Fire TV? Pair your phone with the 4-digit code on the TV and control it over Wi-Fi, with no Amazon account.
Insignia and Toshiba sell many TVs with Amazon's Fire TV built in. That's good news when the remote goes missing: a Fire TV accepts your phone as a remote over Wi-Fi.
Does my Insignia or Toshiba TV run Fire TV?
If the home screen is Amazon's (rows of apps and shows with "Find" and "Live" at the top), it's a Fire TV. Some Insignia TVs run Roku instead, with the Roku menu on the left. Both work with a phone remote, they just pair differently.
How do I control an Insignia or Toshiba Fire TV from my phone?
- Connect your phone to the same Wi-Fi network as the TV.
- Install Remofy, a free Android remote with no account and no subscription, and open it.
- Tap your TV in the list. A 4-digit code appears on the TV, and your phone shows up on it as "Remofy". Type the code in the app.
That's it: the app remembers the TV and reconnects by itself, and tapping the TV in the list wakes it from sleep.
The code method is confirmed on recent Fire TV Sticks. Fire TV smart TVs from Insignia and Toshiba should work the same way, and if your model doesn't offer the code, Remofy switches to ADB debugging and walks you through it.
How do I control an Insignia Roku TV from my phone?
Tap it in Remofy: Roku needs no code. If the TV ignores the buttons, set Settings > System > Advanced system settings > Control by mobile apps to Enabled.
What can I control?
- Arrows, OK, Back, Home and Menu
- Play, pause, rewind and fast-forward
- Sleep and wake the TV
- Volume and mute, where the Fire TV controls the volume
- Open apps
Frequently asked questions
Do I need the original remote to set this up?
Not for the code: you only read it off the TV screen. Only if your model has no code step and needs ADB debugging do you have to press a few buttons on the TV once.
Does it need my Amazon account?
No. Pairing happens between your phone and the TV on your Wi-Fi.
Is it free?
Yes, with every button available. Remofy shows ads to stay free, and there is no subscription.
