You lost the remote, you open VIZIO's app to use your phone instead, and it asks you to sign in first. Many recent reviews of the official app complain about exactly that. The good news: your Vizio TV doesn't need an account to accept a phone remote. It needs a 4-digit code that it shows on its own screen.
Here's how to control a Vizio SmartCast TV from your phone without signing in to anything.
Do I need an account to control a Vizio TV from my phone?
No. Vizio SmartCast TVs approve a new remote with a one-time 4-digit code shown on the TV. That's the TV's own security step, and it works the same whichever app asks. An account is something an app may ask for, not something the TV needs.
How do I control my Vizio TV from my phone without signing in?
- Connect your phone to the same Wi-Fi network as the TV.

- Check the Wi-Fi. The phone must be on the same network as the TV, not a guest network, and with any VPN off.
- Wait and try once more. If another phone or app was pairing a moment ago, the TV may still be busy with that request.
- Restart the TV by unplugging it for a minute, then try again.
